Porcelain Sign Process
Porcelain enameled signs have been said to be
a true visual
reflection of the times. When used for advertising, the signs gave a
brilliant permanence to the product. Today, these advertising signs are
a collectible art form.
Our collection of porcelain signs
and decorative accessories are authentic reproductions utilizing the
same process popularized in the early 1900's. Each piece of heavy
steel (not tin) is cut and prepared to receive the colors by a process
called pickling.
The colors are not paints, but finely ground glass crystals (porcelain
enamels) which, when kiln-fired at 1350 degrees Fahrenheit, fuse to
the heavy gauge steel plate. Each color is applied by direct screen
application and fired separately creating a durable, lustrous and
rust-resistant product.
They may be used indoors or outdoors, and they can be cleaned very
easily. Handcrafted with pride in the U.S.A., these images will add a
touch of quality nostalgia to your home or places of work and play. We
hope you enjoy our signs and look forward to your continued interest.
